Programme Notes
Perhaps Charles Dickens’ famous line, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” best describes what has happened recently in Hong Kong. By carefully manipulating the harmonic progression, this piece alternatively fluctuates between bright and dark harmonies, so as to portray our people’s feeling towards the recent fight between people and the government. This piece eventually resolves into a pleasant and calm ending.
The title, Peninsula, depicts the geography of Hong Kong. It was commissioned by the Amigo Saxophone Quartet for the Singapore Saxophone Symposium 2014.
