Programme Notes
The place where a composer lives often affect what he writes, this explains why composers often seek for a chance to escape from his/her daily life, so as to acquire new inspiration from an unknown environment. This work, “Concrete”, is inspired by the sound that surrounds me everyday in the city I belong to, i.e. Hong Kong. Throughout the work, one could not only hear how the drills and machines are running non-stop, one could also feel the anxiety and desperation of Hong Kong people. This work is dedicated to my friend, saxophonist Wong Tak Chiu (p.s. concrete is a building material that is widely used in Hong Kong).
