Programme Notes
Commissioned by Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, “Here is Wind, There is Tree, But They Never Meet” was written during the pandemic in summer 2020. One day I was gazing out of my room’s window, looking at the outside world—all of a sudden it seems so unnatural, so unrealistic. I saw trees, I saw birds, I saw the ocean, I saw high risers, but all of them seemed to be so unconnected. It was almost as if I was being presented a virtual reality of the “outside world” through the window, while I was kept indoor, composing, writing, daydreaming, and thinking about the purpose of art.
“Here is Wind, There is Tree, But They Never Meet” was written for the Taiwanese Ensemble, Chai Found Music Workshop.
