Programme Notes
Written for marimba solo and percussion ensemble, “Marimba Concerto No.1: Road Business” is a milestone of the ongoing journey with Toolbox Percussion, a percussion initiative started in 2016. As a part of the ensemble’s US debut performance in San Francisco, “Road Business” documents the route back and forth between San Francisco and Hong Kong.
“Marimba Concerto No.1: Road Business” is written in three movements with all played without pause, accompanied by video recorded and edited by the composer in Hong Kong. The three movements are, I. Build; II. Lament; and III. Crash. This work is premiered by Prof. Jack Van Geem and Toolbox Percussion in 2019.
