Programme Notes 適逢庇理羅士女子中學管樂團成立三十週年，樂團指揮譚香盈小姐希望我創作一首管樂跟鋼琴獨奏的作品，主題是「春」。得知將會由鋼琴家羅乃新女士首演後，我便開始構思如何把作品變得更個人化，更適合羅氏演奏。我與羅乃新女士於機緣巧合下在監獄探訪時認識，當時我們所探訪的對象，是赤柱監獄內一群被關了十多二十年的終身監禁者。他們每一個都在年輕時犯下過錯，繼而斷送了自己的下半生。在探訪的過程中，我感覺到他們都對自己的過往有所悔咎，然後在監獄中重新找到對生命的熱誠。《春賦》所表達的，正正是這一種感覺。樂曲以低音號獨奏開始，以緩慢的小調描繪冬天最孤寂、最寒冷的日子。然後樂曲逐漸變得激烈，就如萬物都甦醒過來，從最壞的時刻慢慢好起來。樂曲最後以溫暖的和弦作結，寓意春天的來臨。
