Programme Notes

Written in 2012, “Prelude to 1830” is inspired by features of Hong Kong. Unlike Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”, the “1830” I referred to is not a year, but a time. It is the time when we switch on our television everyday, and hear the prelude to TVB news. I quoted the Morse code of “NEWS” and made it into a recurring theme. I have also manipulated the original theme song of TVB news and changed it to the current form.
