《出入》Entrance/Exit (2015)

For string quartet Commissioned by InTuition Premiered by Romer String Quartet in Hong Kong City Hall Theatre on 5 July, 2015. Programme Notes 《出入》為弦樂四重奏而寫。樂曲采用拱橋式結構,在開端時以層遞方式展現弦樂的泛音可能性,並透過此「入口」把聽眾帶進一個探索音色的領域。樂曲中段會出現一段「全音程」旋律,並由演奏家根據指示,去把這段旋律拆解、分割、重組,並在樂器與樂器之間作交流及對答。樂曲最後回歸平靜,猶如「出口」一般把聽眾帶回現實世界。

Programme Notes 適逢庇理羅士女子中學管樂團成立三十週年,樂團指揮譚香盈小姐希望我創作一首管樂跟鋼琴獨奏的作品,主題是「春」。得知將會由鋼琴家羅乃新女士首演後,我便開始構思如何把作品變得更個人化,更適合羅氏演奏。我與羅乃新女士於機緣巧合下在監獄探訪時認識,當時我們所探訪的對象,是赤柱監獄內一群被關了十多二十年的終身監禁者。他們每一個都在年輕時犯下過錯,繼而斷送了自己的下半生。在探訪的過程中,我感覺到他們都對自己的過往有所悔咎,然後在監獄中重新找到對生命的熱誠。《春賦》所表達的,正正是這一種感覺。樂曲以低音號獨奏開始,以緩慢的小調描繪冬天最孤寂、最寒冷的日子。然後樂曲逐漸變得激烈,就如萬物都甦醒過來,從最壞的時刻慢慢好起來。樂曲最後以溫暖的和弦作結,寓意春天的來臨。
